Which Banks Are Hiring Hardest in Hong Kong? Bank of East Asia Tops Our July 2026 Tracker

We ranked the 429 active Hong Kong finance postings in NiceHire's tracker by employer. Bank of East Asia leads with 41 — ahead of Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and HSBC. The full table, the banking-only re-cut, the four caveats that ARE the methodology, and what we deliberately did not conclude.

Ask anyone in Central which bank is hiring most aggressively right now and you will get a confident answer built on three coffees and a rumour. We prefer to count.

NiceHire tracks job postings collected from the career sites of Hong Kong financial institutions. On 24 July 2026 we snapshotted the corpus: 429 postings marked active in Hong Kong, from 40 distinct employers. This piece ranks those employers by tracked posting count — with the caveats stated before the table, because for a ranking piece the caveats are the methodology.

Read these four caveats first:

  1. This ranks our tracked corpus, not the market. Our collectors follow a fixed roster of employers. A bank we don't track scores zero here regardless of how hard it is hiring. Rankings answer "who has the most tracked openings", not "who is hiring most in Hong Kong".
  2. Postings were last re-verified between 15 and 29 May 2026. "Active" means active as of that verification; some roles will have closed since.
  3. Posting counts are not headcount. A single evergreen posting can absorb dozens of hires; a bank posting every seat individually will look bigger than one that pools them.
  4. Employer names were normalized. "Standard Chartered" and "Standard Chartered Bank" are counted as one employer, as are the three renderings of JPMorgan Chase and the FWD entities. The full merge table ships with the data. One judgment call we did not make: Bank of China (Hong Kong) (20 postings) and Bank of China (4) are kept separate, because they are distinct listed entities; merged, the group would count 24.

The table

All active Hong Kong postings in the corpus, employers with 8 or more, as of 2026-07-24:

2Goldman Sachs32
3JPMorgan Chase22
4Morgan Stanley21
4Standard Chartered21
4Citi21

Three things the table says

1. The top of our tracker is a local bank, not a bulge bracket. Bank of East Asia — Hong Kong's largest independent local bank — carries 41 active tracked postings, nine clear of Goldman Sachs and roughly double HSBC's count in our corpus. The honest qualifier: BEA lists roles individually and in volume on its careers site, and posting style affects counts (caveat 3). But even read conservatively, a homegrown bank matching the combined visibility of two American bulge brackets in tracked openings is not the market of 2022, when the story was global houses vacuuming up local talent.

2. The American houses cluster tightly. Goldman Sachs (32), JPMorgan Chase (22), Morgan Stanley (21) and Citi (21) sit within a narrow band — 96 tracked postings between four firms. For all the headlines about Wall Street trimming Asia, the shop windows we track are far from empty.

3. Insurance and asset management are in the same league as banking's mid-table. FWD Group at 18 out-posts UBS and DBS; BlackRock, Invesco and AIA at 9 are level with several global banks' Hong Kong counts. If you only scan bank career pages, you are ignoring a third of the table.

Restricting to banking-tagged roles only

Because several employers above are insurers, asset managers or Big Four firms, we re-ran the ranking on the 261 Hong Kong postings whose industry tag contains "banking". The order changes at the margins but not at the top:

#EmployerBanking-tagged postings
1Bank of East Asia41
2Goldman Sachs22
3HSBC20
3Citi20
3Bank of China (Hong Kong)20
6Standard Chartered17
7Morgan Stanley15
7JPMorgan Chase15
9Deutsche Bank14
10Nomura13
11DBS Bank11
12BNP Paribas10

BEA leads either way. Note what the filter does to Goldman Sachs (32 → 22) and JPMorgan Chase (22 → 15): a meaningful slice of the American houses' tracked postings is tagged to asset/wealth management and securities divisions rather than banking proper — which matches what those postings actually are.

What we deliberately did not conclude

We did not conclude that BEA is "the most aggressive hirer in Hong Kong" — our corpus can't establish that. We did not annualize, extrapolate, estimate market share, or compare against any prior period — this is our first published cut of this data, so there is no earlier like-for-like snapshot to compare to. Next month there will be, and the more interesting piece — who moved — becomes possible then.

Method

Full read of NiceHire's external_jobs corpus taken 24 July 2026 (1,198 tracked postings; 479 active; 429 active in Hong Kong). Employer counts are counts of active Hong Kong rows grouped by normalized employer name. The frozen snapshot and the script that regenerates every number and both tables in this piece are published in our repository; if a figure here cannot be reproduced by that script, the figure is wrong and we will correct it. Postings data reflects NiceHire's tracked corpus only and is not a representative sample of the Hong Kong labour market.

NiceHire is a hiring platform operating in Hong Kong. We publish our own counted data rather than repeating market rumour; when the data cannot support a conclusion, we say so in the piece.
